NSCN Member Success Story: Audrey

How Audrey used the New Start Career Network's resources to get back to work

Audrey learned about the New Start Career Network (NSCN) through Ready to Work New Jersey, and she decided to join. Her biggest challenge in seeking a new position had been getting her job search and networking techniques in line with today’s job market. With the help of NSCN, Audrey was able to completely revise her résumé and cover letter and also take advantage of the wide network and networking techniques offered through NSCN. Audrey utilized many other NSCN tools such as getting involved in networking groups, learning about LinkedIn, understanding the importance of key words in the application process, and improving her chances of getting past the initial electronic reviews of online application processes. Audrey’s NSCN Volunteer Career Coach experience was positive because her coach gave her the confidence to walk into her interview without worry.

After being out of work for nearly a year, Audrey was able to secure a position as a budget analyst in a higher education environment. While she her previous experience was within a K-8 school district, this position is a nice fit with her background in business administration. Audrey offers the following advice to job seekers and fellow NSCN members, “Make use of the tools provided to you through the Network. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. You are not alone!”
