NSCN Member Success Story: Cliff

How Cliff used thew New Start Career Network's services to find work

Facing nearly two years of unemployment and battling the challenges of uncertainty, frustration, and depression, Cliff saw an article about the New Start Career Network (NSCN) in the Asbury Park Press and decided to join. Since then, he has utilized many resources that are available through NSCN, including working with a Volunteer Career Coach. His coach was able to offer help revamping his résumé and cover letter, mock interviewing to prepare him with difficult interview questions, as well as providing moral support and professional guidance and advice on his job search. Cliff’s Volunteer Career Coach felt that he had many valuable attributes that contributed to his success with NSCN. “Cliff was very engaged and enthusiastic about working with the NSCN team from the start," shares the coach. "He has always been receptive to following suggestions on new paths and taking a proactive approach to finding a job.”

Cliff had been applying for jobs without getting any responses before he was able to connect with a recruiter who submitted his application for a job every couple of weeks. His perseverance paid off, and Cliff was able to secure the contract position as a transition portfolio manager with a global pharmaceutical company that he was seeking. Cliff’s advice to other NSCN members is to “utilize the services offered by NSCN to the fullest. Besides the website, I would also recommend the career coaching.”
