Assessment and Occupational Tools

Even if you have a long work history, it may be worthwhile to do a current assessment of your interests and skills to identify the kinds of jobs and industries that will fit you best, particularly if you are thinking about changing fields or have been out of work for a while.

assessment.jpgO*NET’s My Next Move website features several assessment tools that can help you explore various occupations, browse careers that relate to your knowledge, skills and abilities, and view information about wages, employment trends, and credential needed for different occupations. My Next Move is also available in Spanish, and there is a special version for Veterans. Another O*NET assessment that you can use is the Work Importance Locator, which can help show you what you value in a job, and what jobs match those values.

AARP’s Work & Jobs website also offers several online assessments to help job seekers explore their interests and consider different options, some that are free and others that have a cost. (These are also available in Spanish.)

NSCN members can also access a skills assessment tool on Optimal Resume.
